Paul Scholes gets first manager job at 4th-tier club Oldham

OLDHAM, England (AP) — Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has landed his first managerial job at hometown team Oldham, which plays in the fourth division.

The 44-year-old Scholes has gained some coaching experience at United since retiring, but has spent most of his time as a television commentator and as a part-owner of fifth-tier club Salford.

Oldham is based about 10 miles (16 kilometers) northeast of Manchester and played in the first two Premier League seasons before being relegated in 1994.

Scholes, who spent his entire career at United and won every major honor under Alex Ferguson, has signed a 1½-year contract at Oldham.
